La javanaise*

I admit
For it
I suffered
Not you
My love
Before
Having
Heard
Of you
My love

In your
Opinion
What have
We seen
Of love
From you
To me
You ha-
D me
My love

Alas
April
In vain
Ties me
To love
I had
Wanted
To see
In you
That love

Life
Isn't
Worth
Living
Without love
But it's
You that
Had
Wanted it
My love

Don't be unhappy
When dancing the javanaise
We loved each other
The time of a song

J'avoue
J'en ai
Bavé
Pas vous
Mon amour
Avant
D'avoir
Eu vent
De vous
Mon amour

A votre
Avis
Qu'avons-
Nous vu
De l'amour
De vous
A moi
Vous m'a-
Vez eu
Mon amour

Hélas
Avril
En vain
Me voue
A l'amour
J'avais
Envie
De voir
En vous
Cet amour

La vie
Ne vaut
D 'être
V écue
Sans amour
Mais c'est
Vous qui
L'avez
Voulu
Mon amour

Ne vous déplaise
En dansant la Javanaise
Nous nous aimions
Le temps d'une chanson

*Javanaise is a more or less defunct slang that interposed a v syllable in normal words. Gainsbourg's javanaise has nothing to do with that. He plays with the sounds of J, V, and N, making his own javanaise that Juilette Gréco said was 'much stronger, much more musical.' This translation does not do it justice.
